Meet (and pledge!) Adele Pond, PSW in ICU and Krysta Fontaine, Clerk, Diagnostic Imaging.

Adele: I’m a Personal Support Worker in the ICU. PSWs were integrated onto the floor during COVID to help nurses delivering patient care. The partnership was so successful the hospital decided to keep us there. Because ICU patients are so sick, their stays are longer – a week at a time, if not more. I support activities of daily living like bathing, preparing patients for tests, making sure they’re fed, and helping nursing staff wherever they need me.
Krysta: I’m a Clerk in Diagnostic Imaging, helping book appointments for Nuclear Medicine scans. These tests help view and analyze function of the body, from bones, heart and kidneys to liver, lungs, thyroid and more. I like being the first point of contact for patients; being informative, helping guide them in the right direction, and easing their minds about upcoming tests.
Adele:
ICU staff and physicians are so informative and supportive. Working to manage that level of illness is intense. We need to pay attention, be on task, be prepared. It’s an amazing cross section of the hospital. Aside from the doctors, nurses, and PSWs like me, we have dietitians, respiratory therapists, lab techs, physiotherapists, housekeepers and other disciplines, all trying to prolong lives, increase comfort, help families, make things better.
Krysta: I was born and raised in Cornwall. Community is huge to me. Adele and I have been friends for 25 years, so being able to take part in the show, supporting local patients and dancing together? We’re having a blast.
Adele:
This is my hometown. They say it takes a village and that’s what we have here. I’ve had times in my life where I’ve needed support, and the community has been here for me. I’m so proud to give back.
What project are we dancing for?
We’re dancing for a mammography injector delivering biopsies for dense breasts, keeping patients in Cornwall instead of going to Ottawa, and new surgical equipment for women’s health.
