Meet (and pledge!) Mia Stirling, Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at CCH and Amber Beaulieu, Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), McConnell Family Health Centre.

We’re new graduates and we can’t wait to make a difference in healthcare, right here at home!
Mia: I’ve always been interested in healthcare, but I wanted a different path than becoming a doctor or nurse. After graduation I completed a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at the Canadian National Institute of Health in Ottawa. It’s an advanced course that’s condensed into 20 months; school was challenging, but so worth it. I’ve been at CCH almost six months now, and I love my job.
Amber: I’m a new RPN and I’m excited to be starting my career at the McConnell Family Health Centre across from CCH. I grew up lifeguarding and teaching first aid. In the middle of an emergency, I’d find myself keeping calm and taking initiative. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping others.
Mia: It’s inspiring being part of people’s journey to get better. Each day at CCH is different, so it’s impossible to get bored. I conduct ultrasounds every day, but no two patients are alike. Our work is incredibly detailed, and each test brings someone closer to an important diagnosis.
The average person may not realize how sick our patients are, and the level of care we provide at CCH. Working side by side with physicians and nurses, interdisciplinary support makes our teams stronger.
Everyone’s been so welcoming to me as a new graduate. Though I came straight from school, the staff and Radiologists helped me feel comfortable contributing to patient care. I feel lucky to work at CCH.
Amber: Taking St. Lawrence College’s nursing program was a great experience. Our instructors were fantastic and the time I spent in clinical placements at CCH inspired me. The nursing staff were so willing to help, teach, and provide hands-on learning. The hospital’s a positive place.
What project are we dancing for?
We’re dancing for $100,000 toward a new ultrasound machine for CCH’s Diagnostic Imaging team. Ultrasounds are part of daily life at CCH, and we want local patients to have the best technology possible.
